Mind Your Mom!
Dan Harker here! Every May that I sit down to write the Homeward Bound Newsletter, I write about Mother’s Day. And why not? It marks such a special day for so many special people! It also prompts me to reflect on all the special memories of my Mom, who was adopted as a baby out of Sweetwater, Texas. When her adoptive mother first saw her laying in a crib at the adoption agency, she had her arms up reaching out to her. Her mom said that she looked happy to see her and wanted to be held. My grandparents played such a critical role in raising a positive and outgoing person in my mom and to this very day, that’s who my mom is to everyone around her.
Mom always looks for and sees the best in others. She’s been an incredible example to me, my siblings, and all the grandkids, inspiring us to think “what can I bring to this day?” and “how can I leave those I come into contact with better than I found them?”
I can say that she was, and still is, an incredibly wise woman. Time truly does reveal just how much every caring Mother is a wise woman, so I think it’s very easy to see why we carve out such a special day every year to celebrate.
I hope you’ll join me, wherever you are, in giving a huge shoutout to all Moms – Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you, Mom, for showing up as your best self everyday and helping us all to be the best that we can be!
Especially the Moms who are sitting right now by their Child’s hospital bed not too far from where I type this…
